What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue and organ in your body. Vertebral dysfunction (often as a result of sitting for extended periods of time or incorrect posture) can cause irritation of the spinal nerves. Chiropractors work with the spine to gently restore normal function of the vertebrae.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is widely recognised as one of the most effective therapies for musculoskeletal conditions. Click here for more information.

Please note: As with all medical modalities, there are potential risks associated with chiropractic treatment.

Do I need a referral from my Doctor to see a chiropractor?

No you do not need a referral from your Doctor for a general visit. However, you will require a referral for enhanced primary care plan, where up to 5 appointments may be funded under the Medicare scheme.

Can I use my health fund?

Yes you can as long as you have chiropractic cover on your health fund. Our clinic uses a HICAPs  facility which allows you to claim on your health fund immediately, and you only pay the gap payment. We accept all bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, American Express).

Are all patients adjusted in the same way?

No. Each person is adjusted according to their age, health status, health goals and unique conditions. Your chiropractor will assess your individual circumstances and a treatment plan will be created to provide you with the best method of chiropractic care, designed  specifically for your needs.

What should I expect on my first visit?

When you visit us for the first time, we will ask you to fill out a patient information form. This includes information on your condition and general health. Your chiropractor will then perform a thorough assessment and create a treatment plan for your individual needs.

Your chiropractor may suggest that you have x-rays taken before doing an adjustment. This is done to ensure that they have a clear picture on what is happening with your spine. In most cases, the x-rays will be covered under the Medicare scheme.

You generally will not be required to remove any clothing during your chiropractic visit.

How many visits will i need?

There is no set rule as to how many visits you may require. Often in situations where there is a problem with the musculoskeletal system, your Chiropractor may suggest a few visits closer together in order to assist the body in the healing process. Each individual is different , and the treatment plan is created accordingly.

Some of the factors that impact on the amount of treatments requires are:

  • severity of an injury
  • Amount of time that the injury has been present.
  • Level of degeneration or bony damage in the spine.
  • Extent of nerve or muscle damage that may be present.
  • General health conditions that may have an affect on the body’s ability to heal itself (fitness level, smoking, overweight, diabetes, alcohol consumption).

Progress exams should be made to ensure that improvement is being made. Some people may choose to cease their visits when they feel better, whilst others may prefer to plan regular visits at two, three or  four weekly intervals, in order to keep functioning at the optimum level.

Certain spinal problems may require ongoing management to help the person function at their best.
