What is a massage?
Massage is defined as the systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for a curative effect. Soft tissue is made more pliable through massage to promote circulation and blood flow and bring about healing effects: physical and psychological changes for general well being.
During your massage, your therapist uses their hands to apply pressure on your body. We use kneading and squeezing, long gliding strokes, short specific strokes and joint mobilization.
Treatment of any injury or problem or massage for relaxation must be thorough in nature in order to achieve maximum benefit from your massage session. After any massage therapy, a client must hop off the massage table knowing a great result has been achieved!
Both long-term muscle tension and sudden impacts, such as a fall or car accident, can have a detrimental impact on your joints. The joints may be pulled out of normal alignment, which can disrupt nerve transmissions, especially in the spine where nerves affect the entire body.
This will almost always be accompanied by tension or injury to the soft tissue: muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (the elastic web of connective tissue that ties your body together). Tight, inflamed muscles can develop glue-like adhesions which prevent the muscle fibers from lengthening completely. In extreme cases tight muscles can compress nerves, causing additional pain.
Having a regular massage can assist and provide relief of muscle and joint pain, tension, stress and ongoing muscle injury.
Benefits of Massage
Massage therapy is extremely beneficial to people who lead a busy lifestyle, increasingly suffering from work related stress. Massage will not only help with mental relaxation but will work on the physical symptoms of back and neck pain that comes from sitting for an extended period of time at a desk or in a car and from physical labor and activity.
If you suffer from any physical condition that may impact on the musculoskeletal foundation of the body, you can benefit greatly from regular massage. Whether the condition affects your feet and strains are felt up the body or your condition starts with the neck and strains are felt down the body or your hips are tight and this affects your back, legs, gluteus and groin, then massage could be the answer for you.
Listen to your body when it whispers and you won’t have to hear it scream!!
Many people wait until they are already in pain or suffering spinal injuries before turning to massage, but why let it get that bad? It is a good idea to take regular massage as a preventative measure so that such injuries do not occur. Regular massage maintenance will increase your overall sense of wellbeing for optimum physical and mental health, helping you to live life to the fullest.
